Cinema Paradiso (1988)

Alfredo tells Toto to leave and never come back, and it's the cruelest kind thing anyone says to anyone in this film. To become someone you have to leave, and to leave is to lose the people who made leaving worth anything. Tornatore won't let you have both. The reel of kisses at the end is beautiful, sure, but I'm not sure the film entirely earns the consolation it wants you to feel. #Cinema
